Warnick appointed to Horse
Park Authority
Legislator is avid horseback rider who fought for
park funding
Rep.
Judy Warnick, R-Moses Lake, was
recently appointed by the governor to the Washington Horse Park
Authority. The
Washington Horse Park will be located in Cle Elum.
As a member of the seven-person volunteer authority, the
13th District legislator will participate in developing, promoting,
operating and maintaining the Horse Park.
Warnick is a frequent horseback
rider and member of the Backcountry Horsemen of Washington. She enjoys
riding her horses near Leavenworth and Cle Elum. She often brings her
family and friends on the outings.
In
2007, Rep.
Bill Hinkle and Warnick worked across the aisle and with
the governor's office to secure $3.5 million in the state's capital
budget for the Horse Park.
Hinkle, R-Cle Elum, was a member of the authority since
inception. He was instrumental in negotiating land deals as a county
commissioner and on behalf of the horse park to come to an agreement
between the resort and the city.
He said
that the authority should now consist of those who know more about
horses to develop a successful park for horseback riders.
"Judy
works with horses every day and has even shown them herself. She knows
what is needed to make this a great place, and she's the perfect fit to
represent our locals in the district," Hinkle said.
"The
horse park means a lot to me, and I know it will for many Washington
residents," Warnick said. "I'm excited about the number
of disciplines that will be available at the park. There will be
opportunities not only for recreation and competition, but also for
learning and therapeutic riding. Families will have access to indoor and
outdoor activities throughout the year. Most of all, these facilities
will help the local economy and provide much-needed jobs."
Warnick expressed praise and appreciation to Suncadia
and the city of Cle Elum for working to secure land for the park. She
noted that Hinkle's work was vital in negotiating land from the resort
to the city for the benefit of the park.
"There
have been quite a few hoops for both parties to jump through to donate
and obtain the land for the park," she said. "I look forward to being
involved with the future of the horse park and going there with my own
horses and family."
Warnick's appointment will last through March 2010.
