Two
Warnick-sponsored bills signed into law
Today
the governor signed two bills sponsored by
Rep. Judy Warnick,
R-Moses Lake. One encourages retired doctors to volunteer their medical
services and the other increases local control over county fairground
annexation.
House Bill 1899 will require a review of continuing education needed
for retired doctors to hold a retired active license, as well as exempt
those physicians from paying a licensing fee.
"The
requirements on retired doctors to continue offering their medical
assistance was brought to my attention by Dr. Bruce Noonan, a retired
doctor in Moses Lake," Warnick said. "I am grateful for his insight and
work to increase medical access at youth summer camps and rural medical
clinics. In the discussion on health care, it's important we don't
discourage highly qualified professionals from offering their skills and
talents to keep all of us healthy."
The
bill passed the House and Senate unanimously and will take effect July
1, 2009.
House Bill 1295 will provide procedures for the annexation of
county-owned fairgrounds by code cities and towns.
"Growing up, agriculture fairs were an important part of my life, and I
want to pass that on to future generations," Warnick said. "I'm still
actively involved with the Grant County Fair, and want to provide the
same great experiences to our communities. This measure will ensure that
the best interests of county fairgrounds are taken into account and
requires communication between counties and cities wishing to annex
property containing fairgrounds."
The
bill passed the House and Senate unanimously and will take effect July
1, 2009.
