Two Cle Elum-Roslyn High
School students page in
House of Representatives
Sophomores Chris
Vertefeuille and Dane Litchfield from Cle Elum-Roslyn High School
paged in Olympia this week, Feb. 23-27.
They were
sponsored by their 13th District state representative,
Judy Warnick,
R-Moses Lake.
Vertefeuille is the son of
Marcia and Joel Vertefeuille of Easton. Litchfield is the son of Sue and
Randal Litchfield of Ronald.
During the week, the two young men attended page school each day,
learning about the inner workings of the Legislature; delivering
documents on the House floor and amongst building on the capitol campus;
and making friends with students from around the state. Litchfield also
presented the American flag on the House floor on Friday.
"Both young men had a great opportunity to be here and learn about their
government," Warnick said. "I hope this will encourage their civic
engagement in the future and that they will be excited to tell their
friends about their experience."
In page school,
Vertefeuille proposed a mock bill that would
allow concealed weapons on college campuses.
Litchfield's mock bill addressed the
state's budget deficit by cutting some programs and raising taxes on
cigarettes, liquor and card rooms.
Since 1891, students from around the state have participated in the
legislative page program. Pages earn $35 for each day they serve in the
program.
Interested students must be between the ages of 14 and 16, have permission
from their school and a parent, and be sponsored by a legislator. For more information about the House
page program, visit:
