Walsh selected
as Republican caucus vice chair
Rep. Maureen Walsh,
R-Walla Walla, was chosen by her colleagues Thursday as vice chair for
the House Republican Caucus. She fills the vacancy left by retiring Rep.
Mary Skinner, R-Yakima.
"I'm honored and thrilled to be chosen
as caucus vice-chair. Mary's shoes are big ones to fill, but I look
forward to the role I can play in our caucus activities," Walsh said.
"It will be important for us to continue to stand together but also to
reach across the aisle on the issues that matter most to the citizens of
our state."
As vice chair, Walsh will assist Chair Rep. Dan
Kristiansen, R-Snohomish, in presiding over daily caucus meetings when
bills, amendments and voting are discussed. She will also be involved in
leadership discussions on the agenda.
"We have a long session
ahead of us. We'll be dealing with one of the largest deficits in
Washington and yet we must still protect our state's most vulnerable
citizens," Walsh said. "It's been encouraging this week to see the new
energy we have in our caucus -- not only with top-notch new members, but
also with the ideas we have to work together for a better Washington."
Walsh was re-elected Nov. 4 to her third
term in office.
