Walshes work side by side in Olympia
PAGE PHOTO RELEASE
Murphy Walsh,
a freshman at Walla Walla High School and son of
Rep. Maureen Walsh,
R-Walla Walla, served as a legislative page for the House of
Representatives this past week.
Rep. Walsh enjoyed showing her son what she does.
"It was really nice to have my son Murphy join me for a week in Olympia
to serve as a page,"
Walsh said.
"He had a great time and I know it will be a memorable experience
for him. My daughter who is 22 still stays in contact with a couple of
pages she met seven years ago when she was sponsored as a page by Rep.
Bill Grant."
The affable younger Walsh joined fellow pages in delivering messages
and documents to legislators in their offices, in committee meetings and
in the House chambers during floor sessions. In addition to these
duties, pages take part in page school where they learn how a bill
becomes a law. They are also required to continue their studies for two
hours during the day.
"Our legislative page school offers a wonderful program where kids
from all over the state get to learn about the legislative process and
develop lasting friendships. I am glad my son could be a part of what we
do here,"
Walsh said.
To become a page,
applicants must have a legislative sponsor and be between the ages of 14
and 16, and obtain written permission from their parents and school. For
