Prescott High School student
serve as page for Rep. Walsh
Kailee Napier recently served as a legislative page in the Washington
State House of Representatives. She was sponsored by
Rep. Maureen Walsh,
R-Walla Walla.
Kailee, 14, is the daughter of Steven and Brenda Napier of Prescott. A
9th-grader at Prescott High School, she served as Rep. Walsh’s page from
Jan. 9-13.
“I am very proud to have sponsored Kailee. I know she learned a lot from
working for the
Legislature and I hope she shares her experiences with her schoolmates,”
said Walsh. “Kailee is a great young woman with a bright future ahead of
her. My legislative assistant, Marge, and I really had a good time
talking to her and hope she is able to visit us again someday.”
Since 1891, young people from across the state have come to Olympia to
serve as pages for the Washington State House of Representatives. Being
a page in the beautiful Capitol Building is a great honor. In short,
60-day sessions, each House member may only sponsor two pages.
As a page, Kailee’s responsibilities included delivering messages and
documents to legislators in their offices, committee meetings and House
chambers during floor sessions. This responsibility is considered vital
to the efficient operation of the Legislature.
In addition to assigned duties, Kailee continued her regular schoolwork
two hours a day and spent time in the legislative page school learning
about state government.
Pages must be sponsored by a legislator and obtain permission from their
parents and school. Most pages live with volunteer host families while
in Olympia.
Students interested in becoming pages can contact Rep. Walsh at (360)
786-7836.
