Rep. Smith uses new technology to connect with constituents

Community call scheduled Feb. 20, 7-8 p.m.

Rep. Norma Smith will take advantage of new technology to bring 10th District citizens together for a community call Wednesday, Feb. 20, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Residents can participate in the call via a toll-free number: 1-866-447-5149, enter PIN 13450.

"Families are busy with school activities, work, family time and, hopefully, a little relaxation, so this new technology is something I think is exciting and will be convenient," said Smith, R-Clinton. "Folks can participate on the call while lounging in a favorite chair and stay on the call as long as they want. It's interactive and a great way for constituents to connect with me and for me to listen to their ideas and solutions on the issues facing our district and state."

Smith encourages everyone to call in and participate in the two-way conversation. With the 2008 legislative session ending March 13, Smith said she hopes participants on the call will offer her feedback on the crucial proposals before the Legislature and local issues that impact quality of life.

"I invite everyone in the Tenth District to join me on the call and ask questions or tell me what they think about the ferry issue, health care, the environment, or on any other concern on the minds of families in our communities," said Smith.

Community calls work much like a call-in radio show. The interactive telephone system allows residents to listen live, ask questions and take part in poll questions. Residents have complete control over how they choose to participate and how long they want to stay connected.
