Norma Smith chosen to fill vacant 10th District
House seat
House Republicans were
pleased this week with the appointment of seasoned political veteran,
Norma Smith, to fill the 10th
District House of Representatives seat left open with the departure of
Rep. Chris Strow last month.
The Snohomish County Council and Island and Skagit county commissioners
voted unanimously for Smith on Tuesday, and she was immediately sworn
into office.
Smith brings a wide range of experience to her position in the
Legislature. She spent six years as special assistant to U.S. Rep. Jack
Metcalf, is a former member of the South Whidbey School Board, and has
worked in the marketing and communications field for a local
communications company.
"It’s an honor and a privilege to receive such wide support from the
folks in my district, as well as from my fellow legislators and local
community leaders,” said Smith, R-Clinton. “While I may be new to the
Legislature, I’ve been working to create solutions to issues facing the
10th District throughout my professional career and through volunteer
efforts. I’m now ready to jump in with both feet and find solutions at
the legislative level.”
Smith said she is looking forward to hearing from constituents and
encourages people to contact her with their comments and feedback on the
issues of importance to them.
“I welcome their input on everything from what we should do about the
ferry situation to how government can control state spending and taxes,”
said Smith. “It’s important for people to keep me informed of their
views, and the best way to accomplish this is for me to have an open
line of communication to those I represent.”
Smith can be reached by phone at 360-786-7884. Her office is located in
Room 417 John L. O’Brien Building, Olympia, WA 98504-0600.
Smith will serve on the House Transportation; Capital Budget; and,
Insurance, Financial Services and Consumer Protection committees.
