RELEASE
Aaron Cochrane, a
sophomore
at Kahlotus High School, served as a legislative page for the House of
Representatives during the closing week of session. He is the son of
Kelly and Becky Cochrane of Kahlotus, and was sponsored by
Rep. Joe Schmick, R-Colfax.
"Serving as a page
can be a very rewarding experience for students who are interested in
learning how the legislative process works," said
Schmick.
"Aaron did an excellent job for us and it was a pleasure to have
him with us this session."
As a page, Aaron was
responsible for delivering messages and documents to legislators in
their offices, committee meetings and the House chamber during
legislative sessions. In addition to their assigned duties, pages continue their
regular studies for two hours a day, and attend page school where they
learn how a bill becomes a law.
An honor student, Aaron is active in his
school and community. He is a member of Young Life and plays on the school basketball and
baseball
teams. His older brother, Ben, had paged for Sen. Mark Schoesler, who
was a House member at the time.
To become a page,
applicants must have a legislative sponsor, hold a grade-point average
of C+ or better and be between the ages of 14
and 16. Applicants are also required to obtain written permission
from their parents and school.
