Garfield
student experiences Legislature through
page program
PAGE PHOTO RELEASE
Heidi Jamison, an eighth-grader
at Garfield-Palouse Middle School, recently served as a legislative page for the House of
Representatives. The 14-year-old is the daughter of
Russell and Sandy Jamison of Garfield, and was sponsored by
Rep. Joe Schmick, R-Colfax.
"Serving as a page
can be a very rewarding experience for students who are interested in
learning how the legislative process works," said
Schmick.
"Heidi did an excellent job for us and it was a pleasure to have
her with us this session."
As a page, Heidi was
responsible for delivering messages and documents to legislators in
their offices, committee meetings and the House chamber during
legislative sessions. In addition to their assigned duties, pages continue their
regular studies for two hours a day, and attend page school where they
learn how a bill becomes a law.
An honor student, Heidi is active in her
school and community. She is a member of the
Drama Club and participates on the school basketball, volleyball and softball
teams.
To become a page,
applicants must have a legislative sponsor, hold a grade-point average
of C+ or better and be between the ages of 14
and 16. Applicants are also required to obtain written permission
from their parents and school.
