RELEASE
Rep. Charles Ross,
R-Naches, sponsored Sabrina Clark in the
legislative page program for the House of Representatives during the
last week of session.
Clark attends Washington Middle School
and is the daughter of Buck and Dee Jenkins of Yakima. As a 4.0 student
and ASB president, she is serious about her scholastic responsibilities.
Page
responsibilities are varied and include delivering messages and
documents to legislators in their offices, in committee meetings and in
the House chambers during floor sessions. In addition to these duties,
students take part in page school where they learn how a bill becomes a
law. They are also required to continue their studies for two hours
during the day.
"It is important our young
adults understand the legislative process. This program offers them a great opportunity to do so,"
Ross said. "I was pleased to
sponsor Sabrina so that she could experience the workings of the
Legislature first hand."
Clark said she met a lot
of nice people while in Olympia and enjoyed the page school with its
mock hearings and session.
To become a page,
applicants must have a legislative sponsor and be between the ages of 14
and 16, and obtain written permission from their parents and school. For
