Murillo serves
in legislative page program
PAGE PHOTO RELEASE
Recently,
Rep. Charles Ross,
R-Naches, sponsored Rosa Murillo in the legislative page program for
the House of Representatives.
Murillo attends Washington Middle School
and is the daughter of Isabel Diaz of Yakima. Her teacher describes her
as enthusiastic and eager to accept new challenges.
Page
responsibilities are varied and include delivering messages and
documents to legislators in their offices, in committee meetings and in
the House chambers during floor sessions. In addition to these duties,
students take part in page school where they learn how a bill becomes a
law. They are also required to continue their studies for two hours
during the day.
"This is a wonderful
program for young adults and I was pleased Rosa could be a part of it,"
Ross said. "It is important our youth
understand the legislative process and this offers them an
excellent opportunity to do so."
Murillo said she made a lot
of friends and shared a number of fun and educational experiences
with other students from around the state. She added she would welcome the chance
to be a page again.
To become a page,
applicants must have a legislative sponsor and be between the ages of 14
and 16, and obtain written permission from their parents and school. For
