Ross awarded 'Legislator of the Year' for gang bill
Bill continues
to move through Legislature
The Washington Council of
Police and Sheriffs (WACOPS) honored
Rep. Charles Ross
with the 2007 Legislator of the Year award. At the same time,
House Bill 2712 that addresses gangs continues to move forward in
the Legislature.
Monday in the House
Appropriations Committee, an amendment was adopted to remove state
funding from the measure. Ross said this often happens so all state
appropriations can be included in one bill.
"I've been told the
appropriation for this bill will be included in the total supplemental
budget," said Ross, R-Naches. "I look forward to voting 'yes' on
this bill on the House floor and sending it a step closer to approval."
Ross was honored last week
for his work on public safety measures. A letter to Ross from WACOPS stated, "We
truly appreciate all your work on behalf of public safety and the people
of Washington State."
"This award means a lot,"
said Ross. "My number one priority in Olympia has been to address crime
and public safety. I will continue to work with the rest of the
Legislature, local communities and concerned citizens to effectively
address public safety issues in our state."
House Bill 2712 has been
referred to the House Rules Committee and awaits action for the floor of
the House of Representatives.
