Ross, House colleagues work to push eluding bill
to Senate
Rep. Charles Ross has
joined in a bi-partisan effort to get the felony eluding bill on the
fast track to passage when the Legislature convenes in January.
House Bill 1030 unanimously passed the House in March of this
year. Ross along with Democrat Reps. Dean Takko and Al O'Brien, signed a
letter asking the speaker of the House to bring the bill to a vote
rather than sending it back to committee.
Strengthening the state's
law against eluding law enforcement is one of Ross' top legislative
priorities.
"This bill is important to
so many in my district," said Ross, R-Naches. "I am very passionate
about making sure criminals who elude the police don't do it again and
harm innocent bystanders, like what happened to Bobby Aguilar and Edgar
Trivino."
The representatives wrote
in the letter: "House Bill 1030 has no opposition...and has been
identified as a top priority bill for the Washington Association of
Sheriffs and Police Chiefs for the 2008 session. Your assistance...will
allow us the time needed to work with our colleagues in the Senate to
help ensure its passage."
When the session begins
Jan. 14, Speaker Chopp will decide whether to bring the bill to the
House floor for a vote or refer it back to committee.
