House passes Rodne measure
on
contracting for municipal court services
The Washington State House
of Representatives recently passed a key measure that would help cities
provide efficient and cost-effective municipal court services. House
Bill 3082, which was sponsored and introduced by
Rep. Jay Rodne,
R-Snoqualmie, would allow cities to contract with other cities for the
delivery of local court services.
“This measure is important
because it would authorize cities to contract with other cities for the
delivery of municipal court services. This option will bring increased
efficiency for many jurisdictions – especially smaller ones,” said
Rodne. “Over time, this will lead to a better allocation of resources
and cost savings for cities. At a time when many cities are already
struggling with revenues and costs, this is a step in the right
direction in terms of budgeting.”
“In my discussions with local elected leaders throughout the district
and state, one of the most important priorities I continually heard was
the need to provide cities with the express authority to be able to
contract with other cities for the delivery of local court services,”
said Rodne. “I am very pleased that we were able to pass this
much-needed measure that will provide relief to cities across the Fifth
District and entire state.”
House Bill 3082 now heads to the Senate where it will be referred to the
Senate Judiciary Committee for consideration.
The legislative session began on January 9 and is scheduled to run 60
days.
