Eastlake High School student
serves as page for Rep. Rodne
Jonathan Munday recently
served as a legislative page in the Washington State House of
Representatives. He was sponsored by
Rep. Jay Rodne,
R-Snoqualmie.
Jonathan, age 16, is the son of Lawrence and Judith Munday of Sammamish.
A junior at Eastlake High School, he served as Rep. Rodne’s page from
Jan. 16-20.
“I’m very proud to have sponsored Jonathan. This was his second
go-around as a page at the Legislature and I hope he’s able to share his
collective experiences with his classmates,” said Rodne.
“Jonathan is a very
bright, impressive young man with a great future ahead of him. I enjoyed
learning about his involvement with police and marine exploring, DeMolay,
and as a black belt in karate.”
Since 1891, young people from across the state have come to Olympia to
serve as pages for the Washington State House of Representatives.
Selection as a page is a great honor, as each House member may only
sponsor two pages each legislative session.
As a page, Jonathan’s responsibilities included delivering messages and
documents to legislators in their offices, committee meetings and House
chambers during floor sessions. This responsibility is considered vital
to the efficient operation of the Legislature.
In addition to assigned duties, Jonathan continued his regular
schoolwork two hours a day and spent time in the legislative page school
learning about state government.
Pages must be sponsored by a legislator and obtain permission from their
parents and school. Most pages live with volunteer host families while
in Olympia.
Students interested in becoming pages can contact Rep. Rodne directly at
(360) 786-7852.
