Rodne begins service as
state representative for 5th District
Pledging to make improving
the state’s economy and local schools his top priorities,
Rep. Jay Rodne,
R-Snoqualmie, was sworn in as the state representative for the 5th
District today.
“It’s an honor and privilege to serve and represent my neighbors in the
5th District,” said Rodne, who succeeds Cheryl Pflug in the House. Pflug
was appointed to Dino Rossi’s seat in the state senate last week after
Rossi stepped down to run for governor.
“I share their priorities
of creating and preserving jobs, improving our schools and protecting
public safety,” he emphasized.
Rodne is no stranger to
serving in elected office. In 2001, he was elected to the Snoqualmie
City Council and has chaired its Public Safety Committee since then. He
is also an attorney in private practice.
He said he’s looking
forward to his new role of community service.
“My job is to work for the
citizens I represent,” said Rodne, who will serve on the House Trade and
Economic Development, Transportation, and Health Care committees. “And
supporting efforts to put people back to work is the best way I can
think of to get started.”
Rodne earned his J.D.
degree cum laude from Gonzaga University School of Law where he served
as executive editor of the Gonzaga Law Review and received the
prestigious Thomas More Scholarship. Following graduation from law
school, Rodne served as law clerk to the Chief Justice of the Nevada
Supreme Court. He is also a graduate of Creighton University where he
earned a B.A. in philosophy. Rodne and his wife, Heidi, live in
Snoqualmie with their two children.
In addition to his role as
a husband, father, city councilmember and attorney, Rodne is a Major in
the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and second in command of a 1200-Marine
reserve battalion. He and his unit were activated in February 2003 and
went to Kuwait and Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Rodne
returned in June 2003 and was deactivated in August 2003.
The 5th District includes
South and East King County, including the Sammamish Plateau, Snoqualmie
Valley, Maple Valley, Issaquah, North Bend, Black Diamond, Enumclaw and
Eastern Renton.
