Biography

PERSONAL:
A North Bend resident, Jay and his wife, Heidi, have a son, Tye, and a daughter, Kalyn.

EDUCATION:
Gonzaga University School of Law, Juris Doctorate degree, cum laude, 1997
Creighton University, Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, 1988

OCCUPATION:
Jay is an in-house general counsel for Snoqualmie Valley Hospital.

STATE GOVERNMENT:
State representative for the 5th District. Jay was appointed state representative to replace Cheryl Pflug in January 2004 and was elected later that year and in 2006.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT:
In 2001, Jay was elected to the Snoqualmie City Council where he chaired its Public Safety Committee. He resigned his post after being appointed state representative.

LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES:
Jay’s legislative priorities include enhancing Washington’s education system, making health care more affordable and accessible, creating and preserving jobs, easing traffic congestion and assisting senior citizens.

MILITARY SERVICE:
In addition to his role as a lawyer, husband, father, and state representative, Jay is a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and second in command of a 1,200-Marine reserve battalion. He and his unit were activated in February 2003 and deployed to Kuwait and Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Jay returned in June 2003 and was deactivated in August 2003.

While on active-duty from 1989-1993, Jay served as a platoon commander in charge of 42 Marines during the Persian Gulf War and as a company Executive Officer, second in command of 200 Marines, in Somalia during Operation Restore Hope. He has received decorations for service in all campaigns.
