Rep. Pearson again appointed House public safety leader
Ensuring safe communities is lawmaker's top
priority
Continuing his work to
make neighborhoods safer,
Rep.
Kirk Pearson today was again appointed to serve as the
House Republican leader on the Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness
Committee.
"I am honored to be entrusted with the responsibility of protecting
the citizens of our state. Whether it's tougher laws to monitor sex offenders
or strengthening our DUI legislation to make our highways safer, I take this job
seriously," said Pearson,
R-Monroe. "I look forward to working with my colleagues,
constituents and law enforcement to ensure crime-free neighborhoods are
at the top of the legislative list in January."
The
House Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Committee considers
issues relating to law enforcement agencies, crime prevention, penalties
and sentencing for criminal offenders, registration and civil commitment
of sex offenders. It is also charged with addressing state and local
government preparedness to respond to public emergencies, including the
operation of emergency communications systems.
Pearson was recently re-elected to his fifth term in
office. This is the third term he will serve as the public safety leader
in the House.
The
2009 legislative session begins Jan. 12 and is scheduled to run 105
days.
