Arlington High
senior job-shadows state representative
Learning the ropes from a legislator's perspective
is goal of the day
Former legislative page
and Arlington High School senior, Austin Davis, spent the day shadowing
Rep. Kirk Pearson, R-Monroe, this week.
The now 18 year-old
Arlington student served as a legislative page for Pearson when he was
in eighth grade and asked if he could return this year to see the
capitol from a legislator's point of view.
"The capitol is
interesting and how government works is complicated, so it's nice to
come back and work with a legislator and see what he does each day,"
said Davis.
Asked if he would like to
work in politics, Davis said he would like to return to Olympia, but to
be a legislative assistant or a lobbyist. "I would like to be involved
in politics someday, but more from the business perspective," he said.
As for future plans, Davis
said he will attend Western Washington University where he will pursue a
degree in Accounting to be a Certified Public Accountant.
Coaching one of his four
brother's basketball team keeps him busy as well as looking for a job to
pay for car insurance, he said.
Davis is the son of Scott
and Kristin Davis of Arlington. Davis' mother is a homemaker and his
father is a veteran of the Iraq War.
