PHOTO RELEASE:
Monroe student pages for Pearson
Pages assist
legislators, learn about legislative process
Rep. Kirk Pearson hosted
ninth grader Anna Bean to serve as his legislative page the week of Jan.
21. Anna Bean, a freshman at Cedar Park Christian School in Bothell,
served as a page this week for the House of Representatives. She was
sponsored by Rep. Kirk Pearson (39th District).
Anna is the daughter of Lubov and Jeff Bean of Monroe. Her educational
interests are in the medical field, but that didn’t deter her from
taking advantage of learning about her state government. She learned
about the page program from the Pearson family. They encouraged her to
participate in the exciting opportunity for students to personally
experience and contribute to the state legislature.
While in Olympia, Anna is being hosted by a Senate Legislative
Assistant. Her motivations for applying for the position included the
lure of being an official piece of the process. “People see my badge and
I look official,” she said.
Pages serve the House for one week, beginning with an orientation for
them and their parents on Sundays. Their day is divided between
legislative tasks such as distributing amendments on the House floor,
and educational opportunities such as page school. It is in Page School
that the students get to write their own bills and learn how the state
legislative process is different from that of the U.S. Congress.
