Kristiansen, Pearson support funds for local
public works projects
Arlington, Sedro-Woolley, Granite Falls to benefit
from loans
Public works projects in
various locations of the 39th District would receive more than $36
million under legislation approved today in the House of
Representatives, 96-0.
Thirty-ninth District
Reps.
Dan Kristiansen and
Kirk Pearson
voted in favor of the statewide $278 million public works project
measure,
House Bill 2437,
which will inject money into the communities of Arlington,
Sedro-Woolley, Granite Falls and Skagit County Sewer District #2 near
Mount Vernon.
"Not only is this a great
bill that would assist in the financing of important sewer and road
infrastructure upgrades, it would also provide local jobs as well. The
money comes from the state's public works assistance account through
low- or no-interest loans," said Kristiansen, R-Snohomish. "So this is a
big win for our local communities that may have had difficulty securing
money through bonding or other means for these critical projects."
"Our communities are
growing and our public facilities must be upgraded to keep up," said
Pearson, R-Monroe. "This assistance is a great help to our local
communities that are struggling to keep pace with the wear and tear on our
infrastructure. I was also delighted to see the truck route included in the
project. This is a much-needed safety improvement for our district."
The bill would finance
four projects in the 39th District:
-
Arlington - $10
million to expand and upgrade the city's wastewater treatment plant
and biosolids composting facility to meet new discharge limitations
and accommodate future growth;
-
Sedro-Woolley -
More than $6 million for installation of two sewer pump stations,
pipe installations, and sewer upgrades;
-
Skagit County Sewer
District #2 - $10 million to upgrade the district's wastewater
treatment plant to a water reclamation facility; and
-
Snohomish County
(Granite Falls area) - $10 million to construct a new two-mile,
two-lane truck route around the city of Granite Falls, including
three roundabouts to improve safety and air quality in the city.
The measure has been sent
to the Senate for further consideration.
