Pearson chosen as lead Republican on House committee
House Minority Leader Rep. Bruce Chandler announced Wednesday that
Rep.
Kirk Pearson, R-Monroe, has been selected as ranking Republican
member on the House Criminal Justice and Corrections Committee.
"I am delighted and honored to be chosen to serve on this very important
committee. Public safety has always been one of my top priorities in the
Legislature. This selection will provide more clout for me to
effectively work on issues important to the citizens of our state," said
Pearson.
In his leading role on the committee, Pearson said he will continue to
pursue tough, but smart policies that will seek to reduce crime, while
at the same time holding criminals accountable for their actions.
"We will continue to seek legislation that would make the manufacturing
of methamphetamine a strike under the state’s ‘Three-Strikes’ law,"
added Pearson. "I will also be working to protect our children in
schools from sex offenders, and we want to tighten our DUI laws to make
offenders more accountable. I look forward to these opportunities to
increase public safety in Washington."
Pearson was recently re-elected to his third term in office serving
Washington’s 39th Legislative District. The 2005 legislative session
will convene Jan. 10 in Olympia.
