Statement by Rep. Ed Orcutt on September 2005 economic forecast

Rep. Ed Orcutt, R-Kalama, member of the Economic and Revenue Forecast Council and ranking Republican on the House Finance Committee, said this about the economic forecast issued today:

“I’m encouraged by the forecast and pleased the economy is improving despite higher fuel costs. We know the economy is cyclical, and the upswing appears to be continuing.

“Just because the revenue projection is up doesn’t mean the Legislature should be looking to commit money to unsustainable new programs. Let’s make sure we have a responsible reserve to weather any unexpected storms, and then look for ways to return money to the economy and to the taxpayers.”
