Orcutt to retain seat on
House Natural Resources Committee
Rep. Ed Orcutt
has been appointed to another term on the House of Representatives
committee that addresses natural resource issues. The position allows
Orcutt, a longtime professional forester, to continue sharing his
private-sector expertise with the committee while looking out for the
interests of the natural resources-rich Lower Columbia area.
“I want to see new employers and new jobs in our area, but I’m just as
focused on preserving the jobs we have, and many of the jobs in our
legislative district are tied to natural resources, including state and
private forest lands. I’ll make heard the voices of the logger in Yacolt
and the mill worker in Camas when dealing with legislation that would
affect them and their families,” said Orcutt, R-Kalama.
The committee, now known as Agriculture & Natural Resources, will take
on a new name and new set of issues when the 2005 legislative session
opens Jan. 10, becoming the Natural Resources, Ecology and Parks
committee. The change was made by House Democrats, who have the
majority.
“I was happy to work on agricultural issues because there are hundreds
of farms in our district,” Orcutt said. “At the same time, I look
forward to getting involved in ecology and parks issues because they can
affect things like fishing, hunting and off-road recreation – activities
that are important to the people I represent.”
Last week Orcutt was promoted to the position of ranking Republican
member on the House Finance Committee. Today’s announcement by House
Republican Leader Bruce Chandler completes Orcutt’s committee
assignments for the 2005-7 legislative term.
Orcutt was re-elected last month to a third House term from the 18th
Legislative District. He represents parts of Cowlitz and Clark counties,
including Camas, Washougal, Felida, Salmon Creek, Hazel Dell, Battle
Ground, Ridgefield, LaCenter, Woodland, Amboy, Yacolt, Kalama, Carrolls,
Rose Valley and Toutle.
