McCune sponsors Puyallup
youth in House Page Program
PAGE PHOTO
RELEASE
Cole Whitehouse served as
a legislative page for the House of Representatives last week. He was
sponsored by
Rep. Jim McCune,
R-Graham.
Cole shared the excitement of the week's activities with his older
brother, Taylor, who was sponsored by
Rep. Joyce McDonald,
R-Puyallup. Both boys are home schooled through Integritas Academy,
and are the sons of Steve and Terri Whitehouse
of Puyallup.
Page
responsibilities are varied and include delivering messages and
documents to legislators in their offices, in committee meetings and in
the House chambers during floor sessions. In addition to these duties,
students take part in page school where they learn how a bill becomes a
law. Pages are also required to continue their studies for two hours
during the day.
"This is a wonderful
program for young adults, and I was pleased Cole could be a part of it,"
said
McCune. "It is vital our youth
become aware of the legislative process and this program provides them an
excellent opportunity to do so."
Cole said he made a lot
of friends and enjoyed a number of fun and educational experiences
with other students from around the state. He would welcome the chance
to be a page again.
To become a page,
applicants must have a legislative sponsor and be between the ages of 14
and 16, and obtain written permission from their parents and school. For
