McCune secures money in
capital budget for 2nd District
Bill helps projects in Orting and Rainier
Rep. Jim McCune announced
today that the final version of the 2006 supplemental capital budget
includes over $300,000 for projects in Orting and Rainier. McCune helped
to secure funding for projects in the district.
“I’m very pleased that we could get some of the projects funded for the
people of the 2nd district,” said McCune, R-Graham. “We owe it to our
constituents to help them in any way we can.”
The budget includes $250,000 toward the construction of a new fire
station in Orting. The current facilities, built in the 1940s, are not
large enough to house modern fire vehicles. In addition to beefing up
fire response, the new fire station will provide improved hazard
response and serve as an emergency shelter.
The budget also includes $75,000 for the Rainier Historical Society. The
Society is a nonprofit agency founded for the purpose of preserving the
history of the town of Rainier and is dedicated to providing social and
economic assistance to individuals in need. Society members are
renovating an old school house, which currently holds a thrift store and
food bank. The $75,000 goes toward a much needed heating system for the
old building. Eventually, the building will be a home for computer
classes, the Timberland Library, classrooms for workshops, a children
and youth activity center, and disaster survival center.
“It’s very difficult to get a seat at the table to ask for money for
your district,” said McCune. “But this year we were successful in doing
that and two worthwhile projects will get some truly needed funding.”
