Rep. McCune to create
housing program for veterans
Rep. Jim McCune introduced
legislation today that would create a home ownership program to assist
veterans and survivors in purchasing a home. The bill has been referred
to the House Housing Committee.
“This bill is important to the veterans of this state,” said McCune,
R-Graham. “The provisions of this bill would help veterans or their
survivors purchase a home; this makes the American dream come true for
many of them.” McCune is a member of the Housing committee.
House Bill 2471 directs the state Housing Finance Commission to create a
home ownership program for veterans. The program would assist Washington
state veterans eligible for benefits, members and former members of the
Washington National Guard who have completed six years of service, and
never-remarried spouses and dependents of deceased, eligible veterans.
These people would qualify for financial assistance in purchasing a
home.
“This type of program is long overdue,” said McCune. “Veterans deserve
this kind of assistance after their service to our country.”
McCune also serves on the Joint Committee on Veterans’ and Military
Affairs.
