McCune begins first term as 2nd District state representative

Rep. Jim McCune, R-Graham, began his first term serving the 2nd District in the House of Representatives yesterday after taking the oath of office during open ceremonies for the 2005 Legislature. Looking on were his three sons and sister.

“It’s great to be back in Olympia. I am honored and privileged to serve the residents of the 2nd District. I will work to create opportunities for our families to prosper,” McCune said.

McCune previously served as State Representative for the 33rd District in 1998.

“My number one priority this session is to get Washington’s economy back on track. Government should not be a hindrance to business; it should be a partner to business. We have a prohibitive regulatory environment and I will work to change that,” McCune said.

The House of Representatives also recently announced committee assignments. McCune will be serving on the Capital Budget Committee, Housing Committee, and Juvenile Justice and Family Law Committee. “I am pleased with all of my committee assignments,” said McCune. “Serving on the Capital Budget Committee gives me the opportunity to produce positive results for the 2nd District, by securing funding for public construction projects in our community.”

The Juvenile Justice and Family Law Committee considers issues relating to at-risk youth, youth violence prevention, juvenile courts, juvenile offenders, and Juvenile Rehabilitation Administration. The committee also considers issues relating to marriage dissolution and child support. Said McCune, “We have many children in our state who require the assistance of the juvenile courts. Those children deserve a system that will protect them and provide them with opportunities to become productive citizens in our communities.”

McCune’s office is open and staffed by Jon Russell. He can be reached at 360-786-7824 and via email at mccune.jim@leg.wa.gov. His address is 321 John L. O’Brien Bldg, P.O. Box 40600, Olympia, WA 98504-0600.
