Page program
helps Bothell teen 'come out of her shell'
PHOTO RELEASE
Chelsea Franson, a junior
at Sky Valley Education Center in Monroe, says her recent service as a
legislative page at the state Capitol was a great learning experience.
She was sponsored by
Rep. Dan
Kristiansen, R-Snohomish.
"It really helped me come
out of my own shell," said Franson, who is also homeschooled. The
Bothell teenager said her government teacher, Lois Caswell, helped her
prepare for the week-long adventure and Rep. Kristiansen "encouraged me
to do this."
Chelsea said one of the
most enjoyable experiences as a page was the opportunity to carry the
ceremonial flag onto the House floor. Interested in politics and social
work, she learned how to write her own bill and worked on public
speaking skills when presenting that legislation to other students. As a page,
Chelsea's duties also included delivering messages and bills to
lawmakers’ offices and to the House floor.
Chelsea is the 16-year-old
daughter of Greg Franson, Spokane, and Corinne Logan, Bothell.
