Hinkle to again lead Republicans on House Health Care Committee
13th District legislator looking forward to putting
forth solutions for state’s health care crisis

Rep. Bill Hinkle, R-Cle Elum, has again been appointed ranking Republican on the House Health Care Committee.

“I’m honored that my fellow Republicans have again entrusted me to lead them on the House Health Care Committee. Our health care system is at an important crossroads and we are ready to help steer our state in the right direction,” said Hinkle. “I remain committed to the principles of putting patients back in control of their health care decisions, truly reforming the health care market so private industry can be a part of solutions, and resisting calls for state government-run health care.”

Hinkle was appointed by the governor in May to the state’s 12-member Blue Ribbon Commission on Health Care. The commission has been meeting throughout the year to look at ways to provide accessible, affordable health care for state citizens, and will submit a report to the Legislature in the next month.

“The Blue Ribbon Commission, to date, has been a positive experience. This legislative session is critical – it is time to take our strongest ideas and enact them into law. I look forward to helping lead these efforts,” said Hinkle. “Our state’s health care system is in crisis and we cannot afford inaction or measures that simply address the periphery of our problems. We need true reforms.”

The House Health Care Committee considers issues relating to licensing health facilities; credentialing health providers; and regulating pharmacies, trauma care centers, and public health departments. It also considers issues relating to the accessibility and affordability of health care in both the private health insurance market and public health programs such as Medicaid and the basic health plan.

The 2007 legislative session begins January 8 and is scheduled to run 105 days.
