Hinkle's ORV bill passes
House
Legislation that would
create a public statewide database that maps public lands open to
off-road vehicle (ORV) use, sponsored by
Rep.
Bill Hinkle, passed the House today.
“This would be a useful tool for anyone who wants to enjoy public lands
by riding ORVs,” said Hinkle, R-Cle Elum. “It’s a good use of public
money to create a database so that people know where they can go. People
need to know where to go on public lands because not every public area
is open to ORVs.”
The database would be created by the state Interagency Committee for
Outdoor Recreation (IAC). The database would be available on IAC’s Web
site so that the public can access it online. Funding for the database
would come from monies already collected from ORV users in the form of
fees.
The bill passed the House 95-0 today.
“The people of our district will now know where they can go to ride,”
Hinkle said. “It may also reduce conflicts between user groups who want
to use the same areas. Many constituents have been asking for this for
some time and I hope that this bill passes the Senate. ”
The bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.”
