Hinkle's trail grooming bill
passes House
Rep.
Bill Hinkle co-sponsored legislation to provide a sales tax
exemption for trail grooming services on private and state-owned land.
House Bill 2646 passed overwhelmingly and is now on its way to the
Senate.
“This bill is very important to the recreational vehicle users in our
district,” said Hinkle, R-Cle Elum. “I’m glad that we can provide this
tax break for snowmobilers and others.”
HB 2646 removes the sales and use taxes from trail grooming services.
The state contracts with private companies to groom roads and trails
with snow-compacting equipment so that they are more usable for
snowmobilers and other recreational vehicles.
“I know the grooming program has made snowmobiling a more pleasant
experience for these folks,” Hinkle said. “This bill would help us spend
the grooming fees paid by the snowmobilers instead of turning a portion
of those funds back to the state in the form of sales tax. This is a
common sense efficiency bill.”
HB 2646 passed the House, 97-1 and is being sent to the Senate.
