Hinkle introduces bills on
local, statewide issues
Rep.
Bill Hinkle, R-Cle Elum, started the 2004 Legislative session
off by introducing a series of bills aimed directly at helping people in
the 13th Legislative District.
“I spent a great deal of time over the summer and fall out talking to
people around the district,” said Hinkle. “I’ve been able to take the
concerns I heard and turn them into legislation that will have a direct,
positive impact on the citizens of the 13th District and across
Washington.”
Among the bills Rep. Hinkle has introduced:
-
ATVs and ORVs:
HB 2356 would give local, state and federal jurisdictions
flexibility to allow all-terrain and off-road vehicles on
non-highway roads, such as Forest Service and state-owned roads. The
change would bring Washington’s policies more in line with Idaho’s
and Oregon’s.
-
Land-locked
property owners: HB 2506 would give property owners who find
themselves “land-locked” by state-owned land a way to way to gain
access to their property over that public land.
-
Endangered species:
HB 2368 would allow Washington state to place on its endangered
species list only those species already on the federal government’s
list.
-
Public health:
Hinkle has introduced three bills relating to health care, including
HB 2357, which would give communities an incentive to better manage
mental health patients and get the sickest patients to state
hospitals, where they will receive the most comprehensive care.
In addition to these
locally-focused bills, Hinkle is also supporting bills that promote the
House Republicans’ agenda to create jobs and fuel Washington’s economic
engine. Specifically, he will focus in on efforts to build a business
climate that sparks entrepreneurial investment and gives people hope for
the future.
