Haler retains leadership
assignment for early learning committee
House Republicans today announced their ranking members on legislative
committees.
Rep.
Larry Haler, R-Richland, was once again chosen to lead
Republican efforts on the House Early Learning and Children's Services
Committee.
Haler, who was recently elected to his third term in the House of
Representatives, said it was an honor to continue working on behalf of
children in Washington state.
"I'm excited to continue working with the early learning community and
the issues surrounding children and families," Haler said. "We're
seeing more and more research about the absolute necessity to invest in
early learning. This is one area where the public's return on investment
is huge in terms of children being successful students and productive
members of society down the road."
Haler has served on committees dealing with children and education his
entire legislative career.
"My hope is that our work will continue to empower parents," Haler said.
"Mom and dad are the first - and best - teachers our kids will have. Not
only do I want to make sure parents have the best tools and resources
available to them, I also want to make sure there are no obstacles.
Nothing we do at the state level should prevent parents from engaging
their kids and instilling an early thirst for learning. It's my passion
and I'm very grateful to continue in this role for my colleagues."
Haler represents the 8th Legislative District, which includes large
portions of Benton County. He is a former council member and mayor for
the city of Richland.
