RELEASE
Rep. Larry
Haler, R-Richland, sponsored Mairi Rodriguez, a sophomore at
Tri-Cities Preparatory School, as a legislative page for the House of
Representatives this week. Mairi is the daughter of
Aaron and Sheila Rodriguez from Richland.
"Mairi's outgoing
personality was delightful and refreshing to have around this week,"
Haler said. "As
a page, she was able to share fun and educational experiences with many
of her peers from around the state."
Along with her other
various duties, Rodriguez shared some unique experiences with her
classmate, Carina Leon. They both presented the flags at the opening of
session and participated in a video clip with
Rep.
Haler that will
air on community TV next week. In addition to delivering messages and
other documents, students are required to continue their
studies and participate in mock
legislative sessions where they learn how to write a bill.
To become a page,
applicants must have a legislative sponsor and be between the ages of 14
and 16. Additionally, pages are required to obtain written permission
from their parents and school.
