Haler sponsors
Richland teen for legislative page program
PAGE PHOTO RELEASE
Carina Leon, a sophomore
at Tri-Cities Preparatory School, served as a page for the House of
Representatives this week. She is the daughter of
Carlos and Peggy Leon from Richland, and was sponsored by
Rep. Larry
Haler, R-Richland.
"It was a pleasure to have
Carina here this week,"
Haler said. "As
a page, students are provided a chance to share fun and
educational experiences with their peers from around the state. It also gives
them a great opportunity to view the Legislature in action."
Page duties are
varied and include delivering bills, floor calendars and other
documents to legislators in their offices and messages to the House
chambers during floor sessions. Leon and her classmate, Mairi Rodriguez,
presented the flags at the opening of session and participated in a
video clip with Rep.
Haler that will
air in the district next week. Students are required to continue their
studies and must attend page school where they participate in mock
legislative sessions and learn how to write a bill.
To become a page,
applicants must have a legislative sponsor and be between the ages of 14
and 16. Additionally, pages are required to obtain written permission
from their parents and school.
