Grand opening for Haler's
district office is July 17
Richland
lawmaker to have full-time presence in Benton County
Rep. Larry Haler has brought his legislative office to the
8th Legislative District. The grand opening of his local office, at 719
Jadwin Avenue, Suite 6, Richland, is set for Tuesday, July 17. The
Tri-City Chamber of Commerce will have a ribbon-cutting at 11:30 a.m.
The public is welcome, Haler said.
"I decided my legislative
office should be closer to the people I serve. It's as simple as that,"
said Haler, R-Richland. "When I was mayor of Richland and on the city
council I appreciated the fact that someone could come to City Hall and
either meet with me or get something to me there. I missed being able to
offer that level of access after I was elected to the Legislature.
Moving my legislative office here lets me be truly 'local' again, full
time."
Haler's legislative
assistant, Jan Swenson, will have the office open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tuesday-Thursday, and from 9 a.m. until at least 2 p.m. Fridays. The
district office will be open until late this year, when it's time to
gear up for the start of the 2008 legislative session in Olympia.
"Every so often during and
after legislative sessions I've borrowed space at one of our local
coffee shops on a Saturday afternoon and made it 'my office' for a
couple of hours. That worked well, but this is going to be better for me
and for the people I represent," Haler said.
