Haler appointed Republican
leader of new House committee
on early learning, children’s services
Rep. Larry Haler
will be the top-ranking Republican on the House of Representatives’ new
Early Learning and Children’s Services Committee when the 2007
legislative session convenes Jan. 8 in Olympia.
Haler served on the Children and Family Services Committee during his
first House term. After that committee was renamed and had its
responsibilities redefined to include early childhood learning, House
Republican Leader Richard DeBolt named Haler to serve as Republican
counterpart to the committee’s Democrat chair, Rep. Ruth Kagi of
Seattle.
"It's a great honor anytime you're chosen to lead the members of your
caucus on a committee, and Representative DeBolt knew of my strong
interest in early learning from my sponsoring the legislation that
created the new state Department of Early Learning. I appreciate his
confidence in me and am looking forward to working with Representative
Kagi and the other committee members, many of whom served on Children
and Family Services with me.
“The benefits of early learning programs have been proven through
research, and I see our committee’s job as seeing how we might leverage
the findings of that research into good, sound public policy,” said
Haler.
Haler was recently elected to a second term from the 8th Legislative
District. He expects to learn about his other committee assignments
soon.
