hold health care solutions
town hall in Burlington on Oct. 5
Lawmakers to share solutions for state, listen to
citizens' views
State Reps.
Doug Ericksen and
Barbara Bailey will host a health care solutions
town hall meeting at
Burlington-Edison High School
on Monday, Oct. 5.
The lawmakers, who are members of the House Health Care and Wellness
Committee, will share
solutions for the state and listen to the
views of those in attendance. Details of the event are as follows:

"Lost in the national debate is the fact that
many of our state's health care problems can be addressed directly by
the Legislature," said Ericksen, ranking
Republican
on the House Health Care and Wellness Committee. "Our solutions include
specific bills for the 2010 legislative session, and we want the public
to be an important part of the process."
"We would like to
share our health care solutions and listen to what people have to say,"
said Bailey,
assistant ranking Republican on the House Ways and Means Committee and a
leader on health care issues.
"We must address what is broken in our health care system, and
preserve what is working well. Our goals are to lower costs,
increase access, offer consumers more choices, and strengthen our
state's safety net so vulnerable citizens can get the health care they
need."
Five of their health care solutions include:

allowing for
health care plans that
meet the needs
of
young adults ages 19 to 34;
-
the purchasing of health
care plans approved in
other states;
-
more health
care
choices for small employers;
-
reforming the state's
Basic Health Plan;
and
-
medical malpractice reform.
The Burlington event is one of several health care solutions town hall
meetings Ericksen and his legislative colleagues are holding around the state. They have held
events in
Bellingham,
Richland and
Yakima, and plan to
also host
meetings in
Bellevue (Sept. 29) and Spokane (Oct. 7 and 17).
