Ericksen calls for real solutions to stabilize the
state economy, create jobs
Since February 2008, the
forecast of state tax collections has decreased by about $4.5 billion --
including a $231 million decrease from today’s forecast. Below is the
track record for 2009-11 tax collections:
-

million decrease
-
November 2008 - $1.4
billion decrease
-
March 2009 - $2.2
billion decrease
-
June 2009 - $297
million decrease
-
September 2009 - $231

"State tax
collections have declined by $4.5 billion dollars since we began this
budget process. Today's announcement of a $238 million dollar decrease
in tax collections indicates that more work needs to be done to
stabilize the state’s economy," said
Rep.
Doug Ericksen, R-Ferndale. "While the most recent tax
collection forecast shows a slight stabilization in terms of the amount
of decline, budget deficits are growing.”
Ericksen is
calling on the Washington State Legislature to take immediate action to
address the state’s economic situation. He is providing solutions to
reform the state’s workers’ compensation and unemployment insurance
programs, and offering real regulatory relief to employers and
manufacturing industries.
"The solutions I am providing are
needed to help keep companies like Boeing in Washington state, but these
solutions will also help employers of all sizes and help create jobs in our
state," said Ericksen.
