Guide Meridian project on
schedule for 2010 Winter Olympics
Ericksen applauds quality, timely work of
contractors
Rep.
Doug Ericksen wants citizens to know that the important
Guide
Meridian project, which will result in four lanes of traffic being
open in each direction prior to the 2010 Winter Olympics, is on
schedule. The 42nd District lawmaker is impressed by the quality and
timely work of the project's contractors.
"I made a
promise to those I represent that the Guide Meridian project would be
completed on time, and we are on schedule to get it accomplished," said
Ericksen, R-Ferndale. "Many people have contacted me
with their concerns about the completion date, and I want to assure
everyone that we will meet our goal."
While Ericksen
is pleased with the project's progress, he questions the outcomes of the
road's roundabouts.
"I join many other citizens who have concerns
with the results of the roundabouts. The roundabout option was not my
preferred choice for this project," said Ericksen. "I
will continue to work with local leaders and the state Department of
Transportation to find solutions for this roadway."
Ericksen also believes there is room for improvement with the
state's processes for building and maintaining roads.
"While I'm
happy the Guide Meridian project is being completed on time, we still
need to reform our state's transportation construction programs," said
Ericksen. "Projects around our state can be completed
on shorter timelines and in more cost-effective ways, and I will
continue to offer real solutions to accomplish these goals."
