Statement from Deputy
Republican Leader Doug Ericksen
on state's revenue forecast
$2.5 billion budget shortfall now expected for
early next year
"The governor needs
to accept the reality that the state will be facing a budget shortfall
of approximately $2.5 billion
early next year. She cannot
continue to be dismissive and coy about this serious problem.
"House Republicans have
offered ideas on how to limit the size of government. Now it's time for
the governor to be up front with citizens on which taxes she plans to
raise to cover the budget crises she helped create.
"The governor has asked the
minority party, 'What would you cut?' We believe she should lead by
example and start with the size of her own office, which has
grown by more than 28 million dollars since Governor Locke left
office."
