Deadline for Washington Aerospace Scholars Program nears
Ericksen encourages local students to apply
The deadline for applying to the
Washington
Aerospace Scholars (WAS) Program is quickly approaching, and
Rep. Doug Ericksen,
R-Ferndale, is encouraging local high school juniors in the 42nd
Legislative District to send in an application. The deadline is
Nov. 9.
"We
must continually challenge and inspire our students with great programs
like the WAS, and I strongly encourage students to apply,"
said Ericksen. "The WAS is a rewarding experience where
students learn in a team environment and work side-by-side industry
experts."
From January to May, accepted students will complete a series of
web-based lessons centering on the history and future of space
exploration. This summer, select students will be invited to Seattle for a
six-day residential experience hosted by the Museum of Flight. During
the residency, students will design a human mission to Mars under the
guidance of professional scientists and engineers.
Rep. Ericksen is
sending local schools application packages and is encouraging
administrators to profile the WAS.
Three students will
be selected from each legislative district to participate in the
program, with Rep. Ericksen sponsoring one youth. There is no
cost for participation. All expenses, including travel, are provided to
selected students.
Any parent, guardian or student who has a question or would like a WAS
Program application can contact Rep. Ericksen directly at (360) 786-7980
or

Coordinator, (206) 764-5866.
