Ericksen applauds
presidential primary election decision
Deputy Republican Leader worked to ensure people’s
voices are heard
Deputy Republican Leader
Rep. Doug Ericksen,
R-Ferndale, responded to today’s decision to move the state’s
presidential primary election to February 19. The Presidential Primary
Date Selection Committee unanimously adopted a motion this afternoon by
Rep. Gary Alexander, R-Thurston County, to move the presidential primary
election to February 19. The previous scheduled date for the election
was the fourth Tuesday in May.
“This decision is very important for voters in Washington state.
Republicans not only played a leading role in saving the presidential
primary election, but they agreed to assign a portion of their state’s
delegates based on the outcome of the vote. I’m proud to be part of a
party, the Republican Party, that is willing to listen to all people on
important decisions like selecting the nominee for President of the
United States. It is unfortunate Democrats have adopted an approach that
puts all the decision-making for this primary election in the hands of
precinct caucuses.”
