Ericksen encourages local
students to apply for Washington Aerospace Scholars Program
Deadline for
Museum of Flight program is Dec. 20
Rep. Doug Ericksen,
R-Ferndale, is encouraging local high school juniors in the 42nd
Legislative District to apply for the Washington Aerospace Scholars
(WAS) Program. Applications must be turned in by Dec. 20. The district
includes: Birch Bay, Blaine, Deming, Everson, Ferndale, Lynden, Point
Roberts, Sumas, and parts of Bellingham.
The WAS Program is part of
the Museum of Flight and introduces students from across the state to
opportunities awaiting them in the fields of science, technology,
engineering, and math. During the week-long summer program, students
will be divided into teams and design a mission to Mars with the help of
educators.
“The Washington Aerospace
Scholars Program is offering students an amazing learning experience.
The program starts with an online curriculum in January and culminates
with a week-long summer program at the Museum of Flight,” said Ericksen.
“Students get to participate in NASA-designed lessons, activities and
projects – and work with mentors and other participants.”
Three students will be
selected from each legislative district to participate in the program,
with Rep. Ericksen being able to sponsor one youth. There is no cost for
participation. All expenses, including travel, are provided to selected
students.
Any parent, guardian or
student who has a question or would like a WAS Program application can
contact Rep. Ericksen directly at (360) 786-7980 or
ericksen.doug@leg.wa.gov.
Or, they may contact the Museum of Flight at (206) 764-5866.
