42nd District legislator
keeping tabs on grassroots-driven agenda, wants more to be done
Rep. Doug Ericksen,
R-Ferndale, is pleased with the early progress of his party’s
“Commitment to Washington,” but hopes more can be done as the
legislative session evolves.
“I’m happy see Democrats embracing parts of our Commitment to
Washington,” said Ericksen. “In just the first three weeks of the
session, we’ve seen bipartisan support in passing bills that provide
$7.6 million in low-income energy assistance and eliminate the sales and
use tax on non-highway diesel fuel. These are parts of our commitment to
help reduce energy costs for families and strengthen the family farm.”
As Republican Floor Leader, Ericksen took a central role in determining
a comprehensive agenda for the 2006 legislative session. He drafted the
Commitment to Washington – the direct product of a grassroots outreach
effort that included a statewide listening tour.
“The Commitment to Washington offers hope, opportunity and
accountability to all Washingtonians,” said Ericksen. “It is a
proactive, constructive, common-sense approach to populist ideas and
encompasses four major themes of: fiscal accountability; child and
public safety; job and entrepreneurial opportunity; and supporting
families.”
Ericksen is also
optimistic state park day-use fees will be eliminated – a popular idea
that was conveyed on the listening tour.
