Ericksen receives award for
work in Legislature to help create jobs
Rep. Doug Ericksen,
R-Ferndale, was presented the Association of Washington Business (AWB)
Cornerstone Award earlier this month for his support of employment and
business issues in the Washington State House of Representatives.
“It’s an honor to receive this award from the Association of Washington
Business. This award is recognition that legislators play an important
role in job creation in our state,” said Ericksen. “Right now,
Washington is enjoying the benefits of a nationwide upturn in the
economy. It’s important the Legislature’s actions help add to this
momentum.”
“The Cornerstone Award is our way of thanking those legislators who
believe in competitiveness, economic growth, and job creation,” said Don
Brunell, AWB President.
Legislators are graded each year on their support of legislation that
creates jobs, lowers regulatory burdens, and aims to bring new
businesses and jobs to the state. In order to receive the award,
legislators must vote in support of the business community more than 80
percent of the time.
“Washington needs legislators who understand how important
competitiveness is to the success of our state,” said Brunell. “The
recipients of this award not only understand this concept, they work
diligently to ensure that Washington is good place to conduct business,
that businesses incur a smaller amount of the tax burden, and that we
keep jobs in the state.”
“The reality is our
state’s employers still face burdens such as an unfair tax system and
too many unnecessary regulations. Legislators still have a lot of work
to do to make Washington a more business-friendly state.” said Ericksen.
“We must enact more policies that promote job creation – while stopping
proposals and eliminating regulations that have the opposite effect.”
This year, Washington
Business magazine, the flagship publication from the Association of
Washington Business, gave the 2005 Legislature a “C-.” AWB is
Washington’s oldest and largest statewide business association.
