Ericksen sees promise in
proposed policy solutions
After hearing Washington’s
governor enumerate the list of problems facing Washington’s Legislature
in the coming session,
Rep. Doug Ericksen
said he was encouraged by a
list of solutions presented today by a statewide public policy group.
Ericksen, who is Republican Floor Leader in the House of
Representatives, was on hand during a news conference today to lend
support to the Washington Policy Center’s Agenda 2005.
The nonprofit research
organization provides free-market research and analysis on contemporary
public policy issues. Its 2005 recommendations include reforms that will
help lawmakers balance the state budget without the need for tax
increases and improve the state’s business climate.
“This group is focusing on
constructive solutions other than tax increases for improving delivery
of state services,” said Ericksen, R-Ferndale. “Governor Gregoire
expressed her desire to overcome differences and solve problems. This
report is a great blueprint for addressing some of the critical issues
before us. I hope she takes these recommendations seriously and makes
good on her pledge to come together to meet our challenges.”
Among the recommendations
presented by the Washington Policy Center were proposals to help address
the cost and availability of health care coverage, improve
transportation, protect the environment, and reform the state’s costly
civil liability system.
Agenda 2005 includes a total of 139 policy recommendations to address 11
different issues. The report can be found at http://www.agenda2005.org.
