Rep Ericksen lauds passage
of bill to help save
Alcoa Intalco Works jobs
Rep. Doug Ericksen
today
lauded Sen. Dale Brandland, R-Bellingham, for his leadership in ensuring
passage of legislation to help keep alive the aluminum smelter industry
in Washington. Senate Bill 6304, sponsored by Brandland, would provide
temporary tax relief for aluminum smelters.
“Senator Brandland has done an excellent job of guiding SB 6304 through
the Senate,” said Ericksen. “We’ve worked together on this issue for
quite some time, and I value his efforts on behalf of Alcoa Intalco
Works employees and their families.”
Ericksen, R-Ferndale, is a co-sponsor of the companion bill in the House
(House Bill 2339) which would also provide temporary tax relief by
reducing the business and occupation tax rate and providing sales and
use tax, and natural gas tax exemptions for aluminum companies. The tax
incentives would end Dec. 31, 2006, after Bonneville Power
Administration energy rates are likely to be lowered.
“Senator Brandland and I
will continue working together on this issue to keep the momentum going
as it makes its way back to the House,” said Ericksen. “I
will continue to do whatever I can in the House to support SB 6304.”
